The oriental Sophora japonica planted during Princess Augusta's lifetime still lives supported by metal crutches. Another contemporary, Robinia pseudoacacia near the Orangery is in the final stages of disintegration. Some sweet chestnuts near the lake and the large Ginkgo biloba have resisted disease and storms which have killed so many of Kew's ancient trees.
